This is a nice cutting board. I treat my wood boards before use, and this didn't need much, mostly (I presume) due to the fact that it's teak. It's not the hard teak either. It is quite gentle on my knives. I purchased this one for meats, and it's plenty big for the cuts I use, including a turkey. The food particles cling a bit more than my walnut board, but nothing a little more water doesn't fix. The thickness and weight are great. Although I store it vertically, I wouldn't expect any warping with this board. Take care of it, and you'll be glad you got one. It's gorgeous!
I got a set of fancy Japanese kitchen knives for Father's Day and was looking to upgrade from the plastic cutting boards I'd used before. After a bit of research I decided that I wanted a large board that I could stow away when not in use, and an end-grain pattern. I looked at multiple options on Amazon, and this board caught my eye.For the price (at least a third less expensive than other boards I'd compared against), I wasn't expecting it to be such nice quality! It has a rich, medium-brown tone that looks quite sumptuous. Add a little board butter (you can make your own! 4-parts food-grade mineral oil; 1-part beeswax, by volume - combine together using a double boiler), and the colors and the end-grain contrast really pop, as well as protecting the wood and making clean-up a snap. It's large enough to accommodate everything I want to cut (usually many different kinds of veggies to sauté for Sunday breakfast), and wipes easily for preparing other items. I had debated the 1.5" thickness of this board vs. 2" of other boards I looked at, and in the end am glad that I got this thickness. For its size (20x15), extra thickness would just add unnecessary weight. I haven't yet gotten out the cleaver and really gone after frozen meats or chicken bones, but 1.5" already seems substantial enough that it could take anything I gave it.The first picture shows the board how I got it (right) vs. with some board butter rubbed in (left); and the second picture is after a full coat. Don't forget this step with any wooden cutting board! The mineral oil and beeswax help protect the wood from drying out and (eventually) splitting, as well as helping seal up any cuts to the wood and making clean-up easier. Give it some more any time it starts to look dry (I've probably been giving mine a coat every 2-3 weeks of regular use), and this board is quality to last several lifetimes.
Being a retired chef, I was looking for the 'last cutting board I will ever buy'. Well this is it. It is absolutely beautiful. The quality is fine craftsmanship. The size is exactly what I wanted. I cut everything on it with razor sharp knives. It doesn't dull the knives and the end grain is self-healing. It still looks as good as the day I bought it. So easy to clean. Just a simple wipe with an occasional oiling. Fits perfect on my counter. It is heavy duty at it's best. Get yourself some wide mouth jar replacement gaskets (or use a towel underneath) and will have unsurpassed stability. It never slides around.
I purchased this item with the understanding that it might not be perfectly flat. I have owned two wood shops in previous years, and at one time, I built a similar cutting board. A lot of work goes into these, and there is no way I could replicate this because of both time and money. When I opened the box, I was blown away by the beauty. The different pieces of wood were nicely balanced in terms of color. The very first thing I did was to see if it was flat. It was definitely flat on all 4 corners could not spin around. When I turned it over, one corner did dip, maybe .040" or so, but as a woodworker, I realized that finding a perfectly flat board of this size is nearly impossible. It did not spin at all. I knew I had a keeper.Teak wood is an extremely durable wood and difficult to find. It contains natural oils that act as antimicrobial agents that prevents bacterial growth so long as you clean it regularly. End grain is a better choice for keeping your knives sharp. It is possible to use a sanding block periodically to remove the scratches and to renew its luster. Just make sure that you use a quality board oil on a regular basis and adhere to general advice found everywhere on cleaning cutting boards. This board should last a lifetime.Pros:Beauty: Five Stars *****Workmanship: Five Stars *****Durability: Five Stars *****Flatness: Five Stars *****Price: Five Stars *****Shipping: Five Stars *****Cons: None that I could findOnly time will reveal the truth. Just make sure that it is not stored in sunlight, around a source of heat, and do not let it soak in water. Gently wash it with warm-not hot water, mild detergent, rinse it, then lightly towel dry it.This would make a great gift.
There were some noticeable dents on the board surface. Otherwise it would have been perfect.
Beautiful and in Good Quality
Good quality product. I had to install silicone legs to protect from sliding.
Absolutely beautiful product, amazing performance. As long as you buy a food-grade mineral oil to oil it, it should keep in good shape (something you have to do with any wooden cutting board). Really stunning product. Makes the kitchen look so bougie.
I updated my review to five stars. Very happy I bought this board. I like it so much I bought a second one. It does need occasional treatment, but it only takes a minute. Clean it with a warm, damp, soapy cloth and dry it off. Don’t submerge it in water. It’s really worth that tiny bit of effort. I love the cutting board; it’s a lovely addition to our kitchen.I received this item four days ago and just noticed a small split today. I hope this cutting board lasts. I didn’t see an option to contact the seller, which I would prefer over leaving a negative review.
