Urban Decor Acoustic Slat Wall Foam Panels (Hexagon in Grey Color) for 3D Wood Wall Decor, Cool Room Accessories, Acoustic Dampening, Mens Room Decor, Gaming Areas, TV walls and moreI bought these purely for decoration. So if you're looking for information on their audio properties, you can skip this review. With that out of the way, these are very well-built. The MDF panels are stapled onto the foam backing with two staples each. Despite only having the two staples, they do not seem loose at all. The wood grain veneer is very thin and is only applied to the very front, which is to be expected at this price point. I absolutely love the color of the MDF panels, and it'll look great against my walls. The catch is that I'm not sure how to mount them. The listing suggests construction adhesive (way too permanent), double-sided tape (is that strong enough?) or screws. I assume they mean putting screws through the foam itself, but that's not very clear. I'll have to think about how I want to mount them.
These are some very nice, fashionable looking and very sound-absorbing panels made of thick heavy fabric backing with wooden slats on the front. They absorb sound well, and they're easy to apply in whatever chosen method you want to put them up on the wall, though you'll need to have your own way because there's no application method included. They look very nice, and they absorb sound well; I can't test their efficiency but 0.8 NRC is fully plausible depending on the frequencies tested. The downside is that you will absolutely need more than 5 if you want to achieve any real reduction in noise or achieve a consistent look. I'm not removing a star for this because it's described as "oak color", but they are MDF or fiberboard with a veneer, not natural wood, so be aware of that. They list several application options you can use, I chose to use the equivalent of 3M Command Strips, and as you can see it's working pretty well. You will need to account for the fabric backing on the back though if you pick that, because of how they're soft on the back, you will need more strips than you might be expecting to need. The wooden slats on the front of the panels work to reflect a fair bit of sound while the foam backing absorbs and muffles sound, and in practice it's a good combination for reducing how much noise gets through. The hexagon shapes are an interesting choice, but it gives you a few different ways to arrange them.I'll update this review if I have any new issues that pop up with these acoustic panels.I only review things that I personally use myself on a regular and continued basis. I always give my full, honest, unbiased and unfiltered opinion on everything I review. I will not mince words. I write exactly what I think about things - the good, the bad, the ugly, and the questionable. And, I will update my review if something breaks, stops working as intended, or otherwise doesn't hold up as expected.
A bit lower quality than I anticipated. Also I weighed and calculated the foam density and it is not accurate, which would explain why it’s so bad at reducing echoes.
First, these acoustic tiles look very nice. They are large, and have a wood-look, but are also very modern looking. The style is a significant upgrade from eggfoam or other shaped foam on the walls. The spaces in the harder top surface of the tiles do help with cutting reverb, and there is a very thick, dense layer of felt under the harder top surface. I very much like how these look and function for dulling the echos in my office that has very high ceilings, and therefore, lots of reverb. That said, this doesn't come with fasteners, which is fine because each person is going to have their own needs for how they want to put this on the wall. However, I like to mount things on my wall with tape adhesives and the backs of these are felt and not a hard surface, so the tape adhesive had a harder time adhering to the felt. I feel this could be improved. Otherwise, they are very nice.
Blending style with function is no easy task, and while this product certainly nails the style part, it stumbles on the function. The light oak slats look fantastic—perfect for sprucing up a gaming room or giving a streamer’s background that sleek, modern vibe. But if you’re counting on these panels to seriously dampen sound, you’ll be disappointed. The design—a combination of hardwood slats and foam cracks—looks cool but doesn’t do much to combat reverberation. Sound reflects off the hard surfaces long before it ever reaches the foam underneath. Ultimately, I found myself relying on rugs, curtains, and other room treatments to pick up the slack. If you’re going for visuals, these panels are a win. But if you need solid acoustic performance—whether for ASMR, podcasting, or a home studio—this probably isn’t your solution. Stylish? Yes. Functional? Not quite.[Disclaimer: This review is for "Urban Decor Acoustic Slat Wall Foam Panels (Hexagon in Light Oak Color) for 3D Wood Wall Decor, Cool Room Accessories, Acoustic Dampening, Mens Room Decor, Gaming Areas, TV walls and more". The Urban Decor Acoustic Slat Wall Soundproof Foam Panels come in a set of 5 hexagon-shaped panels with a white oak finish. To start with, these truly look beautiful. They could easily be used in an office, a bedroom, living room, basement, or just about anywhere you need a very attractive solution for sound absorption. Each one has matte oak slats on the front, stapled to a very thick board with black felt on the reverse side. I didn't read the description carefully, and was surprised when these arrived without any way to adhere them to the wall. No adhesive is included, but they do offer suggestions for ways to do so: screws, adhesive tape or spray, or liquid nails. While each panel is lightweight, I can't imagine the adhesive spray would last very long, and the liquid nails seems too permanent a solution (removing would incur significant wall damage if you went this route). For my purposes - a large open foyer that's two stories high - I know I will need more than one box of these. I expected that, to be honest, and got these as a "trial" to see how I would like them, determine the quality, and see if they worked as advertised. I do really love the look of them, and think they are pretty good quality as well. But do they work for sound absorption? It's hard to tell with only 5 of them. But I think I can sense less sound bouncing off the walls in that big foyer, and think that a couple more sets of these will really have an impact. The trendy, stylish design is a nice complement to my decor, and it becomes wall art that you can arrange in a variety of ways. Overall, these are quite nice, so much so that more boxes are on my wishlist!
These look really nice, but I can't say I noticed a difference in the sound. Probably need to cover the wall with them.
These are advertised as soundproof foam panels, but I'd say this is 100% wall decor with a soundproof bonus. I'm not sure what I was expecting as these are very unique, but the minute I opened the box I was blown away by the quality and the design. They are very sturdy, with thick felt and solid wood. Each panel measures about 3/4" in depth, yet they are light enough to hang vertically without damaging your walls. The pattern is mesmerizing... I see it differently every time I look at it. I have modern decor and I've been looking for something unique to an asymmetrical wall. I love how these pieces bring in some warmth with the wood, while still adding the geometric flair. I haven't hung them yet as I plan to stain the wood to better match my flooring (another versatile bonus) - I will post more pictures once I have them in place. The only downside for me is the cost. At the time of this review, the price is $40 for a box of 5. Considering the quality, it's a fair price. However, 5 panels doesn't get you very far. I'd love to buy at least 3 more boxes to get the look I want, but that's outside of my budget. Still, they are incredibly versatile; even with only 5 panels, there are dozens of placement options. Stay tuned for more pics. In the meantime, have fun with this soundproof art!
