great sewing machine, light weight and easy to use.

Okay listen, I bought this machine to fix a button... and next thing you know, I’m hemming curtains, crafting tote bags, and low-key considering launching a fashion line called Sew What?! 😎✂️This little powerhouse has 97 stitch options — which is like giving a toddler 97 crayons and expecting them not to color on the walls. But me? I used every single one to decorate a potholder. Was it necessary? No. Was it glorious? Absolutely.Threading is easier than trying to untangle earbuds from your pocket (and that’s saying something). And the LED light? It's like a spotlight saying “Yes queen, sew that seam!”If you're on the fence, hop off and stitch yourself a hammock with this thing. It's a game-changer.

Bought this machine for my wife, she loves it, and uses it with any excuse! Years later she still enjoys it!

This machine doesn't come with a user manual. I could buy one online for $15. I had a lot of trouble figuring out how to thread the machine. After getting frustrated I found a you tube video that did a great job of explaining & showing how everything works. I wish I had found that video right away. The machine works great! They should include a manual with the machine.

I’ve had this thing for 5 years. Mostly used the first year and this last year and I love it! It works very well and has lots of attachments needed! Im a beginner ish too. So I highly recommend if you’re getting started.

Do not buy this product. It is unreliable with its stitching. You can see in the pictures how the machine will randomly add or leave out stitches without changing anything! I didn’t even change the speed of the pedal. When I looked at my stitching after I took it out of the machine I was so disappointed especially because it keeps happening! If I could return I would unfortunately I didn’t even get it out of the box until a month after I ordered it... that should’ve been a sign I didn’t want to use it! Not to mention it took forever to set up I’m talking 2 hours of me sitting and googling then eventually calling Singer’s support line. I’ll have to get thread that blend in with all of my fabrics because I don’t want people seeing the awful quality of stitch work (only partially caused by me because I’m still learning a steady straight hand lol!)

I bought this machine specifically for sewing knits with its stretch stitches, as my “daily driver” is a Singer 301 that only does straight stitching. So far, this machine has worked pretty well for me with only a few hiccups. I think the instructions could better explain that to access the blue stitches, you need to continue to turn your stitch length dial counterclockwise PAST the 0 setting to get to the S1 setting. The self threading needle has been hit or miss for me in actually working, but that’s not a big deal for me. I have yet to figure out how (if) to adjust the presser foot pressure, and my fabric has been sucked into the throat plate several times when backstitching at the edge which is obviously very frustrating. I have experienced the bobbin thread breaking/bunching underneath, but found it was due to the thread coming out of place in the bobbin case (perhaps from stitching too fast?). Simply removing and reloading the bobbin solved the problem for me. While it doesn’t sew quite as smoothly as my vintage machine, overall this was well worth the price of the Prime Day deal. I’m not a professional seamstress, but I do make a lot of things for the home, baby accessories, and more recently, apparel; I think this machine will be more than sufficient to handle those tasks. I’ve made several pieces for my kids so far and hope it continues to perform well for years to come.

As an absolute beginner to machine sewing, I LOVE the Singer MX 231. It is simple enough to use right out of the box, and powerful enough for basic projects (I made a small quilt top within the first 48 hours of owning it :O).For absolute beginners to machine sewing, there is a steep learning curve -- I thread the needle manually, and have endured MANY thread jams as I tried to sort out tension and how to pick up the lower bobbin thread. (Best suggestion -- leave the factory settings along, tension of 4 is perfectly fine, anything else is disastrous :)Unfortunately the machine does not come with a print manual, I strongly advise you look at the manufacturer's pdf version, and although the quick start guide is enough to get going, it it not enough for beginners to understand their machine. I found YouTube tutorials essential (a shout out to 'LydiaSewsThings' for getting me through).My recommendations for success in using this affordable machine include spending time 'playing with it', make a few dozen rows of straight seams, and use premium polyester thread and decent fabric (DO NOT USE CHEAP DOLLARSTORE THREAD, OR IT WILL JAM FOR SURE).I HIGHLY recommend the Singer MX231 for beginners -- it's an affordable entry point into machine sewing and a powerful, reliable machine that will be perfect for small garment construction, crafts, and basic quilting projects. I love my new Singer, and hope you will too.

I’ve been using the SINGER MX231 sewing machine for a little while now, and I’m really impressed with how easy it is to handle.
