The fresh flow rain is the first battery operated fountain on the market. It holds up to 75 ounces of water. The user fills the water bowl and after a period of time, the pump will turn on and draw water up to the top of the receptacle and rain back down into the receptacle, where gravity takes over and the water flows back into the bowl from the receptacle. Your pets can drink from the bowl, from the water stream coming from the receptacle or from the top. No cords, outlets or limitations on where to place your pets water fountain. Requires 4 D-cell batteries (not included) FAQ’s: Pump – the pump automatically turns off after drawing water up to the receptacle. It will turn on after a period of time to repeat the process. The pump does not run continuously 24 hours a day. It will turn on and off after set periods of time and repeat Gravity Hole – if you live in an area where you have “hard” water, the hole that allows water to come out of the receptacle may become clogged with minerals. Use a paperclip or safety pin to unclog the water deposit Batteries – if new, good quality batteries are used, the battery life should last roughly 3-4 months Water Level –ONLY fill the fountain BOWL with fresh water (do not fill the receptacle). It’s important that fresh water be added frequently to keep the water level from getting too low and potentially burning out the pump.

After less than two weeks of use it stopped working and I scheduled a refund and began research into battery fountains. Not able to locate a reliable, affordable replacement, I decided to give it another chance. My discovery: it needs to be taken apart and cleaned at least every two weeks with fresh batteries installed at that time. I also removed the charcoal filter and use pre-filtered water and will order rechargeable batteries. At night I turn the unit off. Love it for it’s simplicity and price point
I loved the idea of a battery powered fountain that can be placed anywhere, however this model needs some improvements. If you have cats that like to put their paws in the water like mine do, anything on their paws falls in the water and gets sucked up into the tower without being caught by the filter, this then plugs the drain hole so that no water comes out into the basin. The tower does not snap securely to the basin which makes it difficult to pick up the unit to empty and clean. The rainfall sound which is supposed to attract cats doesn't look or sound like rain and though my cats do like trickling water they were not interested in the fountain any more than their water bowl. I have made some improvements of my own by putting a mesh over the holes to catch debris before it gets in the tower and also enlarged the hole so that debris will be flushed out and to create a larger stream. I would prefer a pocket on the outside to place the filter in making it easier to replace and to cover more area , by doing this the tower could be changed so that it could be securely fastened to the base.Update: The pump is shot already and I see no where I can get a replacement. I have cleaned it as shown by the manufacturer every two weeks, fresh water at correct level daily, and new batteries. The pump starts only if I spin the fan, as soon as I put it back together and add more water it stops. COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY.
Concept is a great idea - I looked around for a long time before I found a battery operated pet fountain. This product could really benefit from a few tweaks. It wasn’t very easy to put together. The suction cups on the motor were not very strong and kept coming undone when trying to assemble. Also it doesn’t really snap together or anything. The water tank base part just rests on the bowl and it makes it difficult to pick up. Also refilling it is unwieldy, due to the fact that you fill the bowl and not the water tank. You’re supposed to fill it up leaving only a quarter inch - the dirty water sloshes on the floor (and me!!) when trying to bring it to the sink to dump.It gets dirty pretty quickly. My cat was very interested in the stream but that also meant a lot of debris got into the water. It didn’t really get filtered out and it wound up blocking the hole for the water stream. I had to clean it out with a toothpick. When switched on, the fountain is not continuous. It cycles every 20 minutes. I actually don’t mind this, but I don’t think this was very clear in the description. I also do not mind the volume. It’s not really very loud, but it was louder than I expected it to be, which could definitely be a dealbreaker for some people. It does sound closer to peeing than a running fountain. The battery panel is screwed shut, which isn’t a big deal but is kind of annoying for when you do need to change the battery. The wire connecting the batteries to the pump seems like it would be secured underneath but sort of just is shoved into the base.So I have a pretty long list of ways that this could be improved, but the plastic is very sturdy and I really like that it’s battery operated. The battery life seems to be pretty good too. I’ve had this several months and have not had to change out the batteries.
This cat waterer is ok. It’s a little wonky to put together and clean. It doesn’t run constantly. Instead, it cycles on and off every half hour or so. It serves it’s purpose and the kittens like it!
First of all, one good thing about this water bowl is, my cat loves it and it is battery operated. I purchased it for that reason, since the location of the cat's food and water isn't near an electrical outlet. However, it is hard to put together after cleaning it (we actually took a picture of how it's supposed to look to put it together for reference to future cleanings). We purchased it one year ago, and today after cleaning it and putting fresh batteries in it, it died!! Really? I plan to call Petmate and complain, but I doubt they will do anything about it. We'll see...
At first I thought this was not going to work out. The instructions are poor pictographs and I got it wrong. But then I figured it out and everything started recycling. The first batteries only lasted three days, the next set a week and now it has been running for 10 days and still going. I use rechargeable batteries, so perhaps the first ones were just not fully charged, and I really don't mind a weekly maintenance as it is a good time to wash the bowl and use clean water, but I also have a baster for plants that I use to suck out any debris the cats deposit once a day and top off the bowl. I don't think it would do for large dogs, or especially messy ones, but the cats love it and have stopped jumping on the kitchen counters and bugging me for fresh water every time I am working in there. It seems there was no way to keep the water clean enough for them with the passive waterer.
Update: this thing is going back. We have had it in use for 4 days and it isnt working as it should. Water is being pulled to the reservoir and not coming back out. I will turn off/on and it will pull MORE water and not return to bowl. I have had to pick up several times a day to clear the pinhole sized water hole of debris. I have had to rinse and clean several times a day, going through 3x the amount of filtered water I would normally use. Petmate, you need to fire whoever designed this polished turd.I bought this because I live in an RV with 2 cats. I have one outlet above my sink and 3 in my dining/living room. No convenient place to keep our porcelain fountain. Ordered this battery powered unit to "fix" this problem. First of all, it was pretty frustrating to put together. The clear hose attaches to the pump nozzle, well the black nozzle on the pump kept breaking off. The hose doesnt go straight up and down but at an angle. Anyways, after getting it together, this thing goes off every 15 to 20 min. I live in 250 sq ft. I jump whenever it goes off, it's loud. It also sounds likes a man urinating! I woke up probably 4 to 5 times the first night I put this together. I have yet to see my cats drink from it.
Replaced an old fountain/feeder with this model. It is quieter and battery operated, so no cord to potentially be chewed. I really like the features. Set up was not easy and the instructions are very minimal. I eventually got it assembled, but am not looking forward to doing it all again when time to replace the filter.
Very disappointed. It is quiet. I thought there would be a better flow of water.
When first received, trying to line up the pump and hide the cord, which has a large connector, is too long, and no dedicated storage is nearly impossible. The water hole is too small to feed the bowl without bocking up after about four fills. Then after only a short amount of time, like two weeks, the pump failed and would not work.Dreadful design and an inferior quality pump. Just threw it in the binI would not recommend it at all
Absolutely love this water fountain. It works well for my blind dog. She can hear it and knows the direction. Being battery operated there is no cords etc for her to trip over. Perfect!!
Transparent. Easy to use.
Unfortunately despite many attempts, the fountain doesn't work at all. At least my cat has decided to drink from the bowl. For now anyway.
