First off, just buy it, it is worth every penny.I was skeptical at first when ordering. I have bought many sharpeners over the years and had my chains professionally done as well. With ok results, I got by. First thing I learned the pro's sharpened my chain incorrectly, putting a 35 degree cut on a 30 degree chain. Also they can care less about the life of your chain. Cutting more than they need each time.What I noticed right off, the cut after sharpening was nice looking, very clean. very little burring. After using the chain on a few logs, I felled a few days ago (Black Oak) it cut them like butter. The chain stayed sharper longer; after cutting 3 trunks I switched chains and was off again. Hands down the best sharpening I have seen in a long time.The sharpener. Well like I said, I was skeptical. But after a small learning curve it all was pretty straight forward. Don't be in a rush, first rule. It will take you as long as it takes you. Even out your chain, make small increment cuts on the chain till all the teeth are even. You may need to do several passes. Taking too much will burr your chain, it is soft metal. So, take it slow. If you do burr it, run the chain, and then resharpen.As far as the pros- durable build, easy assembly. The Cons- I think the light should be LED and brighter. It is a little dim for me. I also think they should have a separate switch for the light. Now because the light turns off when the motor turns off, watch the cutting wheel, it doesn't have a motor break, it keeps spinning for a while. I added another light for my sharpener. Problem solved. If you are new, get on YouTube. Watch a few videos on sharpening.Overall, I am very impressed. A solid thumbs up for the price. I am finally not disappointed.

Everything about this machine was fine - smooth motor, easy adjustments, good features, BUT the chain holder simply doesn't work. It is a one point pinch, and holds the chain so it doesn't slide, but the link will rock back toward the tooth, making sharpening impossible. I tried to reef on the clamp harder, but then the whole assy rotated off of the set angle. Very frustrating. I haven't been able to sharpen a chain with it yet. My $29 plastic HF grinder does a much better job at holding a chain and maintaining angles. I was using an old chain that has pretty short teeth - a newer one might work better, but they all get old eventually. It may have to go back.EDIT: the chain I was using was pretty worn. I've since used the sharpener with newer chains, and it's working well. The only issue I have with it is the bottom knob to adjust the blade angle has to be REALLY tight to prevent movement when locking down the blade. I keep a rag handy to hold when I tighten/loosen the knot - impossible with bare hands once a little oil gets on it. It should be redesigned with a lever and splines, so only 4 stars.

This thing is awesome. Great for the price. I use it for sharpening my chainsaw blades as well sharpening a bandsaw blade for a portable sawmill. That is what I primarily use it for. I modified mine after watching a video to remove the lift spring so I can use a push stick on my knee which allows for both hands to push the sawmill blade through the jig guide on the grinder. Works great. Does not pull much power, I run mine off a small solar system most of the time. I think it only pulls 200-300 watts continuous. The two wheels it comes with are easily changed out in just a minute once you figure out the angles, you don’t need to take all the safety housing off to do so.

It appears there is good ones and bad ones. This one is junk, the base wobbles no matter how tight you get the adjustment nut.

First the plus'. The motor seems strong, runs quietly, does not over heat. The wheels provided were well dressed and I expect a long life. They might could be a little finer grit as the surface finish the grind leaves is a little rough for my tastes. The not so goods.... in order that I noticed.... The front scale is put on under tension and does not lay flat against the mounting surface. I will tap one of the rivets out and elongate the hole to allow it to sit as it should. The knob and spring arrangement for holding the adjustment the base to the chain holder is wishful thinking. Throw the spring in your parts drawer and replace it with 3-4, 1/2" flat washers. problem solved. The blade guard is a joke, you can not install or change a wheel without either removing the blade holding base or the the motor assembly, and the hole drilled in it for the shaft locking provision is off center of the hole in the shaft. Also the cover for the blade retaining bolt went in the trash as it flops around if loose enough for it to sit flat, or sticks out like the Little Rascals ear if tightened enough to secure it. Said trash can solved that problem. The blade holder was put together wrong. There were 2 flat washers between the fixed and moveable rail, taking apart and reassembling with 1 behind for a spacer, 1 between for proper chain orientation solved the problem. Also the pivot "boss" on the motor carrier will ultimately need to be replaced with a more durable piece, probably a properly dimensensioned SHCS, if you do a lot of adjusting as it is poorly designed. I only sharpen 1 chain, so it will not be an issue for me. I would buy it again though, as the hour that I spent getting everything to work properly was much less than a Comparable Oregon or whatever would have cost. Happy grinding!
