It is with heavy heart that I convey how terrible this product is. I've had this Dyson robot vacuum for around 6 months. it is set up to clean one large almost entirely empty room with extremely low industrial carpet. the HW itself seems pretty great with amazing suction that cleans noticeably better than my previous Neato vacuum. However, there are persistent SW issues that make it incredible frustrating to use. I kept hoping a SW update would fix the issues, but i have now given up on that hope. Issues I routinely encounter include: dropping off the WiFi network for no reason (i have other Dyson products like air cleaners that *never* fall off the network) and then being very tricky to get back on the network. his is probably the most annoying given it takes 5-10 minutes to get it back onto the network (which I'll complain more about below). The second most annoying issue is getting "stuck" which is ludicrous given how simple and empty the room is... and to be clear "stuck" seems to mean it bumped into the wall or a simple object like a pole (see photos) whereas other times the robot will just stop in the middle of the totally empty room and declare it is "stuck". There are a few other similar and seemingly related failure modes... like the robot will not indicate it is "stuck" but will just stop in the middle of the room and let the battery drain. Even when it is working well, the app UI (i am on iOS) for managing the WiFi is terrible. If you are (or were previously) connected to a network and go to manage WiFi you cannot see what network you are/were connected to... you can only add a new WiFi connection which will overwrite whatever was previously there. If my robot has fallen off the network and I go to do that it then will allow me to reconnect to the same network and tell me it was successfully connected but frequently it is not actually connected (i.e., I still cannot communicate with the robot via WiFi... just over BT for settings management) so it takes a few tries repeating that for the robot to successfully connect. It seems to work best if I switch WiFi networks instead of trying to reconnect to the one it already dropped off. In any case, you get the idea. Just a tragically and unnecessarily bad product from an otherwise great product company.
I replaced a three-year old SHARK vacuum robot with this one. I put it in use on Dec 26th, 2025 and have been using it for about 5 weeks now. It's 5 stars in my book. Here are my thoughts:. After two weeks, I was about to throw it out the window. It wasn't doing the zones very well, couldn't find the docking station, got stuck in places, and the dirt map would not sync with the house map.. Now, after 5 weeks, I've changed my tune. First, it remembers the zones well. I heat with firewood and bring in dirt once or twice a day in winter. I can have this thing clean up the dirt at the fireplace after each wood run. It takes about 5-10 minutes. The old SHARK robot never mastered zoning.. The big thing to remember about the dirt map and the house map is that they will sync up after about 3-4 weeks, maybe 10-20 whole-house cleanings. See the attached picture of the dirt map synced over the house map.. Second, the Dirt Analysis algorithm seems to work perfectly. I've attached a map of today's cleaning. The bright areas are the entry door near the fireplace, in front of the fireplace, and in front of the couch. It spends extra time in those areas and does a great job. The attached picture shows the dirt it picked up this morning - I just ran the darned thing yesterday. Great work.. The device gets stuck in two places. There is a ultra fine, but deep, rug that it cannot master. I guess the wheels get stuck in it, and it stops. I remove that rug when cleaning that room. It also does not do heating registers well - it gets stuck on them. Whenever stuck, the iPhone app tells us so we can unstick it.. The noise level is just fine. It changes often as it is cleaning on AUTO. I watch it clean the rug at the fireplace door, and it's loud with increased suction and a rotating brush. I don't care - it's doing what it has to do.. The battery life is fine. We have a large house requiring 2-3 hours of cleaning if we do the entire house. It has to recharge for 90 or so minutes twice. The thing is - with the dirt analysis and me knowing where the dirt concentrates around the fireplace, I just clean there - 15 minutes tops.. This was expensive, but if I had to do it again, I'd absolutely buy this one over another SHARK.. The iPhone app is fine, but could be improved with a feature to tell me where the unit is. Also, I haven't figured out how to cancel a cleaning mid-process.. This thing takes little time to maintain. I wash the filters and such about every week. I can start it, and it just does its thing. It took a little time, however, to figure out those areas that it had trouble with (like heat vents).Top notch and well worth the price in my book.
I have used a Neato D7 for 8 years. When they shut down the server we looked to get another "D" shaped vacuum. Dyson was the top choice. We purchased it based on Dyson's reputation and it's claims. Dyson vacuums well and was easy to empty and clean the filter. However, we are used to the Lidar on the Neato. Dyson does NOT use Lidar making it not be able to vacuum in dark places. We had to turn on the lights so it wouldn't get lost or stop cleaning. It also needed sufficient light to find the dock to redock itself. We added a nightlight above the dock so it could find it. In the first week of using the Dyson, it had several errors, mostly that the "airway was blocked". The airway was completely clear and clean. Then it gave a problem error when no problem existed. Had to power it off and back on again to clear the error. I called Dyson support and they were very little help. They told me I needed to delete and reinstall the app. Other problems: we had to map the entire house twice before it got a somewhat accurate map. When it cleans it overlays the cleaning on top of the map. It is not accurate and they don't line up. Although you can create zones, you can NOT schedule to clean different zones. The schedule is for the entire house ONLY. Even cleaning an area of 700 sq ft, it couldn't do it on one battery charge. The software and interface has much to be desired for usability and dependability. I returned the vacuum after 8 days of using it because it failed my expectations miserably. I am spoiled by my Neato D7.
