This water changer has changed my life! I can’t explain how easy it makes water changes. I have 4 aquariums in different areas of the house. My favorite thing about this vacuum is that I can hook it up anywhere. I hook it to my kitchen sink to do my 60 gallon. I use the shower head hookup for the 2 smaller tanks (have a dual and leave the mounted head off so that hook up is always available). I open the back door & hook it to my hose connection, for the 75 gallon tank. It’s absolutely wonderful! What used to take me hours, with bucket after bucket of water, splashing everywhere, now takes me minutes! I find myself doing water changes so much more often because I know it’s a breeze & I’ll be done in no time.Whoever created this was a genius! The water pressure from (whichever faucet I use) creates suction to drain my tank. I’m able to vacuum my gravel/ sand as the tank drains. When I’m ready to refill, I flip the switch and the water goes from the faucet to my tank (completely cleaning the hose, in the process)! It’s wonderful. Then, I turn the water off, flip the switch again, and drain anything left in the hose, down the drain. By the time I unhook the device from my faucet, it’s clean and empty of water. I simply roll it up and put it in a basket in the garage, for next time.I especially love the metal connections. Everything is super sturdy & strong. I imagine it’ll last forever. If you have one or more aquariums, you are wasting a lot of time & energy, if you don’t own this device!Ps. I was not paid or given anything free for my opinion. I truly believe in this product!
All of the pros Gadfish lists apply. This device is wonderful. Now for some caveats:-- Air in the line is your enemy. Don't try to begin vacuuming your aquarium with no water in the hose. You'll get really sad suction. To remedy this, as the manufacturers suggest, make sure you've used teflon tape on the hose ends. I'm going to add marine sealant. I started pumping water into the tank to eliminate the air, then I closed off the valve at the suction end, opened up the pump, opened up the suction valve again, and voilà, STRONG suction.-- If you're under water restrictions, get a battery unit. I'm not sure how much clean water is used to do a partial water change, but it's significant.-- Do not overloosen that little screw on the faucet connector of the quick connect. As a matter of fact, don't do it over an open sink either. I caught the screw before it went down the drain, but one of the bearings disappeared. Thankfully it works great with two, but putting everything back together is a bit of a pain.-- Gunk or goop will accumulate against the fish trap. Put the suction thingie (I reached deep for that technical jargon) over a sink or tub and turn the water flow back on. A few seconds and the fish trap will be clean.Great device, you just need to be aware of a few things. 🙂
Bought to replace the name-brand original aquarium siphon, as I'd cut the hose down a few years back and subsequently moved the tank too far from the laundry sink to be able to use it. Cost of a new hose was about the same as buying this!Overall impression is that I really like this siphon - brass pieces feel solid, and I've experienced no leaking/water spraying in the faucet area, as I used to dread with my old siphon. Also appreciate that it has a quick-style attachment piece at the faucet end so I can leave it on the laundry sink all the time and clip the siphon on quickly when I need to use it. Super long hose is sufficiently long for my needs.Biggest downsides for me have to do with the cylindrical clear plastic piece that goes in the aquarium water. Firstly, it's short, so most of my arm is going into the tank if I want to direct it at specific locations needing cleaning. And secondly, the perforated plastic piece seemingly intended to keep fish from being sucked up also prevents a lot of waste from my turtle and even just small deteriorated pelleted food from being properly removed. The holes are just too small. Still brainstorming how to fix this issue - hoping I can come up with a solution! In the meantime, I may buy a small net to manually remove medium-sized debris. I wish the manufacturers had made the strainer removable, which would allow for optional use and easier cleaning.
I never leave reviews but feel like this product deserves it. I have 2 aquariums. One 125g and one 65g. My 125g is on a stand which makes the top of the aquarium about 5ft tall. Before I bought this, I used 5 gallon buckets to take out dirty water and then refill with clean water. I did this once a week at an average 25% to 30% water change, sometimes closer to a 50-60% change. It was a huge pain, literally. I have fibromyalgia and lifting the buckets over and over was painful and very tiring. For my 65g I had to use a 1 gallon pitcher. Which was easier than a 5 gallon bucket but still tiring. I got this in April and do weekly water changes in both tanks. It has been a game changer for me. I absolutely love the ease of use and the fact that I no longer have to lift heavy buckets. The kit came with different size fittings to fit to my faucet that then attaches to the quick attach valve fitting that is on the end of the hose. It doesn't drain super fast but I'm 100% ok with that. When filling back up, it does just fine. I just did a 75% water change on both tanks yesterday and for both tanks it took about an hour to remove and replace the water. The materials are good quality and nothing has leaked. Again this was bought in April with weekly use. So appx 8-10 uses so far. I couldn't be more happy with my purchase and my fish appreciate it too, much less stressful than the buckets. It's been life changing for me, especially since when I had to use buckets it took me out for days afterwards because of the pain. If you're thinking about it or on the fence about buying one, DO IT!!!! It's def worth it.
Very good product, useful, easy to use.value for money, looks durable
This worked really well after i put it together. It is better than my previous one because it has all metal fittings so the eductor will last longer and there is no metal on plastic connection which you never want. All metal fittings also means no plastic parts blowing out as the threads are sharper and solid.A bit of advice also when you set up .After you determine the farthest distance you want to run the hose to then cut the hose off you don't need because any extra length is friction and will slow your operation down.
Perfect… love this and it fits my tap
Super pratique, bonne qualité.
This is a very good quality made water exchanger for my fish aquarium. It is solid brass and works very good and not plastic that breaks when you go to use it.
