I love Graniteware. I have roasters, pie and loaf pans, and one with a strainer insert for spaghetti or steaming. They cook well, and wash very easily, even with the baked-on bits you may get when cooking meat loafs. This particular pot was purchased to store water that I purify in my Pro-Pur gravity purifier (I have the one with single filter which filters out fluoride). I wanted a large vessel that does not have the potential to leech metals into the standing water, and Granite Ware's coating is actually made of glass. And, the price ireally cannot be beat.As far as making stocks goes, this is just as good as a stainless steel pot, or one of the very expensive pots that serve the same purpose. Considering the hours that you will be simmering your bones and other ingredients -which can be more than 12 hours- it really is a smart choice to use a pot that will not leech the pot's interior coating into your stock. It has been years since I dumped my teflon and aluminum cookware, and finding an innocuous huge pot can be very pricey indeed. That's why I go back to basics. A good choice for the discerning cook, even when price is no object!.
I decided this year to take up a childish hobby: collecting maple sap and boiling it down to syrup. I realized from the beginning it would be messy and laborous and produce almost nothing. I suppose the average trout fisherman spends well over $100 per delivered pound of fish, but it's the same idea.Anyway, in assembling the necessary gear, I realized I needed a large pot. I didn't want to borrow one, figuing I'll probably damage it somehow, so I checked Amazon. There, for under $10 including shipping, I found this 12-quart behemoth. It showed up three days later (bless Amazon Prime!) with the promised ding in the lid. It works just fine, of course. And when I finally scorch it, or drop it, or clean it with the wrong material, it won't make much difference to the pot's condition.Overall, the workmanship seems adequate. The handles seem to be well secured. The enamel isn't obviously flawed. The guage of the steel seems adequate. I don't notice any hotspots on the bottom, as I boil my sap.And all that, for ten bucks!
Love this canning pot, and it reminds me of my grandmothers pots. Reminder that this canning pot is for water canning which is only for canning jams, jellies, etc. (not meat, fruit or vegetables). A light nice weight and large for canning several jars at once! Highly recommend and the price was very reasonable.
I make my own dog food and I make it in these two pots and they hold enough to make enough for 6 to 8 weeks. Heat distribution is good but worry a little about thickness not being enough. They hold up great so far. Great buy for me!
Love it. Just like my old one that I needed to replace.
Growing up in an Italian household, Sunday dinner was always a thing. The regular little stock pots that you find in the stores were just never large enough. I purchased this 12-quart as well as an 18-quart for those larger family meals and this gets the job done when you need to throw an extra 1-2 pounds of meatballs in the sauce for those unexpected family members. It's a solid pot that holds up pretty well, it's a little thinner than I thought it would be but it still works out pretty well so there's no complaints here. It's a nice size for soups and stews as well. Not recommended for 'reducing' any liquids though, I've found that even on a lower heat things tend to burn rather quickly.
Since getting this stockpot, I use it a LOT. I make and eat a lot of stew-like stuff, plus chili, and this is working GREAT for me. I've had no problems with it at all, as long as I don't go with high heat and no stirring, which results in burning stuff to the bottom inside. But I would guess that's true of any stockpot. It certainly is true of my other stockpots, which are made of other materials, from aluminum to stainless steel.I have a 6 quart that's a little too small for most of my uses, and a 16 quart that's a little too big. Like Goldilocks, this 12 quart pot is just right for me.I really have no complaints at all to report regarding this. I've had it about 2 months at this point, have cooked in it a couple times every week, and it's not warped or chipped or done anything unexpected or bad.
Item arrived on time ,don’t have any complaints about quality,BUT the size is very misleading, the height reads 11.8 inches, thats to top of pot with lid on , the actual height of the pot itself is 9 1/4 inches
Heritage American lightweight low cost ($21.97 CAD in 2021 for the 12 quart stock pot) low maintenance all natural cookware. A little fragile to physical force but relatively durable otherwise. 5 star if received in ideal condition but mine was not ideal. Check the Granite-Ware website for official advertising, FAQ and other product information.Unfortunately the pot I got looked like it had been refurbished or something with a scrape on the outside of the lid, not a full chip and a scrape on the inside that had been glossed over like repair work.My other gripe and warning is that the design is such that you can't lift a full 12qt pot by the handles and it says so right in the product documentation which is good or you might break it by accident doing so. You can lift it by the sides or bottom. Properly it should be designed so that it can be lifted by the handles even when hot and full and even swung by them without potential long term wear and damage. That said I suspect that it will last a long time if no accidents and the directions are correctly followed. So in good condition a 5 star product for what it is. Maybe try a different vendor or better luck to you in your purchase. Returns are a pain so I didn't bother here, had the same problem at Walmart but worse with actual chips and no glossy glass covering over top and after return and repurchase my second Granite-Ware piece was in good undamaged condition at least. However that one was made in Mexico rather than in the USA. I would rather a piece just as good made in USA a little closer to Canada or better yet made in Canada but I guess they don't have a factory here. Mexico is good as well, at least it's on the continent even if further away.To be clear the piece I got here is made in the USA and is serviceable for cooking. It's only a cosmetic blemish and doesn't really change the use of the pot at all.I think this is the ONLY enamelware manufacturer still manufacturing in the USA for what it's worth.
Was hoping to be able to boil pasta but the pasta sinks at the bottom and sticks almost immediately. Okay for soup but feels a little cheap and the handles are a little of sharp. Next time I will spend a little more and get better quality. Keeping it in case I need to boil a large quantity of water in the future, but won't be using it for anything else.
Bought this product as I was having a large gathering and needed a big pot to cook up my pasta on a budget. This would be excellent for soup and I think I’ll just use to for that in the future, but it isn’t great for pasta as it isn’t non stick. Overall I’m satisfied with my purchase.
Bought this for the sole purpose of canning my tomatoes. Works great with my jars and also works with my induction stove. One member mentioned handles get hot this is true but I have been using induction for about 20 years and know that this can be a problem bug at this price point I use oven mitts its better than paying 100 or more for a pot specifically for inducyion.
I have used this pot not all that often in the few months that I have had it - it burned thru the bottom coating on the stove top - it should have lasted longer than this - change of rating from 5 to 3
