Wow! This is the magic potion for our frenchie. She has had long-standing GI problems with diarrhea, and we have struggled to find the best diet. She gobbles this up and her stools are perfect. We have tried it all, including raw, and this is the winner by a mile! I think the price point is great. Less expensive than raw and other frozen options and certainly saves $$$ on vet visits!

My dog has a sensitive stomach, and I was struggling to find a nutritious food that would also sit well in his tummy. After several trips to the vet (and one to the ER) my regular vet had put him on a prescription food by Royal Canin. After reading the ingredients (soy protein broken down small enough to not trigger an allergy, and other junky fillers), I knew I could not have him stay on this food long term and began searching for an alternative. I found a holistic vet who was able to do a food allergy test and after getting the results, recommended Honest Kitchen Beef. (As a note to any owners having the same struggle as me, I was told by a few different vets that the oil and other products used in kibble - the stuff that actually forms the food into kibble - can itself be extremely inflammatory for dogs' stomachs.)Frankie has been on this food for a month and so far, it's been a total blessing. It's obviously packed with nutrients and doesn't have any garbage. I was worried about the form the food is in when I first got it -it looked kind of gross - but my dog LOVES it. He hasn't had any tummy issues, poops regularly (your dog WILL poop 2x as much as he/she did on any other food), and looks forward to meal time :) I would highly recommend this food, especially if your dog has a sensitive stomach, or chicken/turkey/fish allergies.I do feel like it's unfairly expensive - my dog is 53lbs and I'm spending about $175 a month on his food now. I am sure it takes a lot more money to make than regular dog food, but I feel like it's the same charade as with human food - we'll continue to eat garbage until healthy stuff becomes more affordable. I would strongly urge Honest Kitchen to consider coming down a few bucks. One thing I will warn about is that after you add water to the food, it is not stable for more than a few hours. My dog is the kind of dog who, 50% of the time will eat his food asap, and the other 50% of the time will kind of graze or leave it for later (sometimes, he won't even eat breakfast until dinner!) The few times he's eaten his food 5-6+ hours later, he pukes almost immediately. So, if your dog doesn't eat it within a couple of hours, I'd definitely try refrigerating it - otherwise you end up wasting a ton of money on this expensive food if you have to throw it out after a few hours. All in all, amazing food if you can afford it.

My dog loves this food, and she is Miss Picky. I'm trying to see if she has a chicken allergy (again) and she's been eating the grain-free beef variety. She loves it! She comes to get me and asks for dinner now. This is a great food for older dogs whose teeth aren't the best any more, because you choose the consistency. Andi loves the turkey variety, too.Be sure to buy the grain-free versions of The Honest Kitchen. The grain-inclusive varieties are heavy on peas, which dogs don't tolerate well and which provide zero nutrition. Cheap fillers. A four-pound box of THK will last my dachshund six weeks. She also eats Farmina grain-free N&D kibble, which I leave out for her. She has a secret life at night while I'm asleep, and she likes to eat her Farmina then. It's a great food, all varieties of it, and it comes in several varieties too, which makes avoiding allergens easy. Andi eats the wild boar and apple variety. Their canned food is also excellent, but unfortunately any canned food gives my dog diarrhea. My dog also gets home cooking when it is to be had. Variety is the spice of life! But, even while I'm cooking, she comes in and begs for her Honest Kitchen dinner. She's still able to sit up and take a little nourishment when the home cooking gets ready.I would recommend all grain-free varieties of The Honest Kitchen to anyone. It isn't practical for a large dog or for three or four dogs unless they are small or medium dogs. But my dog loves it, the food agrees with her, and we're able to avoid chicken completely this way. The Farmina I mentioned is the top kibble made, in my book and in the eyes of most of the members of a dog food/nutrition group I belong to on FB. I'd recommend Farmina to anyone, too.

My puppy had been eating kibble when I got her and developed an allergy to chicken. So I had to change her food. The first time I gave her this, she delightfully ate it all and then jumped in my lap licking me all over to say “thank-you, I love this food”. She licks the bowl clean every time. I hear Honest Kitchen uses synthetic vitamins, which isn’t what I want. But so far haven’t found a good one she likes as well.

I have a pretty picky, spoiled rotten (by my wife who treats him like her 5th child) Boston Terrier, who acts like a food critic whenever you place a bowl of food down for him. It's as if I'm terrified of the reviews I'll be seeing in the local paper, written by my dog and his last dinner. He ate Kibbles & Bits ever since he was a pup, then suddenly, at 5 1/2 years, he decided he just wasn't going to eat it any more, and the search was on to end his hunger strike. I read all the great reviews from people who had similar problems getting their picky dogs to eat, and this food being the solution. They all stated it looked like green oatmeal (and didn't look very appetizing), but their dogs didn't mind the look, and ate it up. By the reviews, I decided to try it. My dog wouldn't go within 3 feet of his bowl the first few times I made it. I finally got him to at least go over and smell it (he always does this before eating anything, and after that he wouldn't go anywhere near his bowl. After a week I finally gave up. In their defense, I also ordered the new Amazon brand of dog food as a backup, I think its called Wag, and he wouldn't touch that either. But that one didn't have reviews that read like this dog food was the saving grace you've been searching for (written by customers who bought it, not by the seller, just to be clear). After going through this with many other dog foods, I finally decided to research what exactly my dog required for a good balanced healthy diet. Surprisingly, the required foods I would need to purchase to make my own dog food, healthier than anything I could by unless I was spending an extreme amount of money, was actually less than what this food would cost to serve him the same amount of days. Dogs don't require anything fancy, just healthy, and if it smells like what I'm eating, he'll do flips for it. I know make his food. A monthly supply of food for him (2 cups a day) costs me anywhere from $20 to $25/month. Much less than what a months worth of human grade food costs. The biggest bonus, he couldn't eat it fast enough from the very first serving. Still eats every meal without hesitation (although I did learn my dog won't eat his peas). This food may be great for some dogs, I definitely don't know enough about it to knock it, and the ingredients are healthy, that's a fact. But it didn't work like I thought for my dog. But in the end, I learned that I could make his food at home, just as healthy for less money (with no added preservatives), in less than 20 minutes a week cooking time. And, my dog finally quit complaining and now eats every meal.

Such a great product! We are currently using the Beef and Chicken food.My large, very healthy, 2-year-old Golden Doodle reached a point earlier this year where he was no longer interested in his food. He refused to eat various canned dog foods and expressed limited interest in his dry food. Naturally this was quite stressful, so as I researched alternative options, I gave him home cooked food and used Dr. Harvey's dehydrated mixes. This made a tremendous difference as he was much happier and thankfully regained his appetite, but my growing concern was that I wasn't meeting all of his nutritional needs and remained unsure if Dr. Harvey's mixes were either.I was thrilled to find The Honest Kitchen! I started off by using their base mix, Preference (which is excellent), as I felt it best to start with the home cooked food he enjoyed. I then slowly explored their dehydrated Beef and Chicken options after having watched their videos and read all of the reviews, but was still hesitant thinking the food may be "soupy" or unappetizing. I ultimately moved forward because it was very important to me that all of their ingredients are human grade, and manufactured here in the U.S. in human grade plants that exceed FDA standards. It gave me such peace of mind knowing they put so much effort into creating such healthy food and are so transparent about their company.I could not have been more wrong about my fears of the food being too "soupy"!! It not only smells GREAT, but is a solid portion of food with a thick consistency once all of the water is blended. Preparation is so easy and takes only minutes (which is crucial when you have a toddler at home, too!). I LOVE that my dog is excited to eat this food (sometimes waiting with baited breath and drooling!) and have continued to purchase the larger boxes. So far I have been rotating between the beef and chicken, but will likely expand into the other flavors as well. Also important to note - he had no trouble adjusting to this food (either the base mix or beef/chicken), has not experienced any tummy troubles (which is AMAZING), and his poop is solid and regular!! =)

Edit 2: it’s been 3 weeks since we stopped Honest Kitchen and went back to Doctor Harvey’s. My dogs have stopped being itchy. They thrive on Doctor Harvey’s, so we won’t be doing Honest Kitchen anymore. If your dog struggles with yeast and infections, I do not recommend Honest Kitchen.Edit: we are almost done with the first box of HK food, and my dogs seem to have an allergic reaction to this food. They had been yeast infection free/itchiness free for the past 3 years while eating Doctor Harvey’s. 2 weeks into eating honest kitchen, and they both got ear yeast infections, and one of my dogs is itchy all over. I haven’t changed anything else in their diet. I believe it’s the high starch content with HK recipes. They are able to eat Doctor Harvey’s in all flavors (salmon, chicken, beef, lamb, and turkey) without any reactions, so I know they are not reacting to the protein source, but to the veggie/fruit component. I will return to Doctor Harvey’s and update in a few weeks.Original review: My picky dog loves the grain free beef recipe. For reference, what I mean by picky is:*he didn’t like the Honest Kitchen Grain Inclusive recipes. We tried both beef and chicken grain inclusive recipes, and he refused to eat them both.*my dog loves raw meat*he is also used to eating cooked chicken and pork that I mix with a base mixI believe he likes the sweet potatoes in this recipe.I have two dogs, and this brand and recipe is healthier than other brands we have tried. The fact that he loves it is also a selling point.

I've got a brother & sister English Springer Spaniel duo. They are 9 months old and have become very picky eaters. I was feeding them 4Health and they just turn their noses up at it unless steak or chicken is added to it. These are my 4 legged children and I'm not going to feed them garbage. I want to feed my pups the best food possible, and after days of research I chose this for their "ad-on" and Merrick Grain Free for the main food.I was skeptical about the food at first. Its quite fine with a few bigger bits here & there, and green in color. I was concerned that it would rehydrate and be too "soupy". The smell was good for dog food. I re-hydrated a small amount and added it to their dry food. Josh just stood there looking at it and once his sister came over to eat he went in. They were trying to lick the Honest Kitchen wet off the dry food. I will be doing more of a 50/50 mix of the food since they like it so much. I'm just concerned that it isn't too protein rich for him. My male has more of a chance to have loose stools than his sister. She seems to have stools that run on the firmer side, and has occasional bouts of constipation. (that's why I'm also feeding Merrick as it has probiotics).I am blessed that I have very healthy & very smart dogs. My dogs don't have any health issues that require a specific food. Cost is always a concern, but when you look at the over-all picture it all balances out in the end. Poor quality food (cheap $$ too) that can cause allergies, GI problems, require supplements, etc that leads to expensive vet visits is an incentive to feed a healthy, quality diet. I certainly don not like taking unnecessary meds and I have no desire to put my dogs in that situation.I also have switched from the common store brand treats to the Honest Kitchen Smooches, and other quality treats. I read the ingredient list very carefully and want to know where the foods are sourced from. Its only a phone call away. I'm not shy about making a call to a company. Just because the package says "Made in the USA" does not mean the ingredients are sourced in the USA. They can come from CHINA and who knows where else.Be sure to use the web as there are some very reputable Pet product Research sites that have excellent reviews that are not paid advertisers and trying to push you toward a certain item. Please consider that if you are looking for a different food to help relieve health issues, you should also look at the dogs entire diet. I couldn't be happier with the Honest Kitchen products so far.I'll be posting updates every week as to how their GI system handles the food.

So nice to have a non-GMO, grain free product for my very sensitive dog. She is beside herself with anticipation when I'm preparing this food,.... she absolutely loves it. For some reason, it's also a food that she doesn't eat as fast as other foods I've given her. So nice to see her not gulping it down in 5 seconds. Nutritious & delicious, perfect!

This dog food even smells good to me. Feeding it to an elderly dog and I like that it's easy for her to eat. No real chewing needed. The texture is like a soft pate. Really great product and while it seems expensive, I haven't found it to be any more expensive than good quality dry food but my dog sure loves it more!

I feed my dog raw and this is a great substitute for his regular food when doing canoe and backpacking trips. Really easy to carry. Was able to bring 10 days of food for my dog without really adding weight to my gear

My dogs really seem to enjoy beef products and this is no exception. They really like it mixed with some freeze dried raw, and again the raw is beef also. I have just started with The Honest Kitchen (about 3 mos. ago) and have been trying all products to learn what they like best. I think I have a winner. I only gave it four stars instead of five because of the condition of the box when it arrived. It was in a plain postal bag. The box was crushed on one side and there was a hole in it.
