Produced from 1983 to 1991, the BOSS HM-2 Heavy Metal is a true legend in the history of distortion pedals. Its signature “chainsaw tone” with all knobs maxed is the defining voice of Swedish death metal, and the slightly milder sides of its personality can be heard on tracks from mainstream to shoegaze. After years of requests from hardcore HM-2 fans, the iconic stomp is now reborn three decades later in a special Waza Craft edition. The HM-2W delivers the authentic analog sound of the original in all its glory, coupled with lots of modern refinements for enhanced performance.

Great packaging. Very well presented. Sounds awesome with my Ibanez and Boss Katana MKII. Great price, Boss always delivers quality products. Knobs turn with ease and stay where you want them. Not a lot of unneeded noise in the background. Pretty quiet.A must have for the heavy metal musician.
I've seen video comparisons of the HM-2W to the original HM-2. They appear to sound the same. The custom mode is noticeably different but I prefer the default standard mode. This is the most over the top pedal I have ever used. I actually don't like it on its own. It would not have occurred to me to stack it with another distortion pedal but I saw a video for that too and liked what I heard. I am running it with the level at 2 o'clock, the high and low at noon, and the distortion all the way down. It still has plenty of its own character at those settings. I plug this into a Metal Zone MT-2W and run them into the front of the amp couldn't be happier with the sound of this combination. Some say to run either of those pedals in the effects loop but in my case they sound better in the front. Always experiment and move them around to find your best sound.

I got this for my father after finding out that his favorite pedal he ever owned was one of the originals of this pedal. when I gave this to him he used it, and he felt that it was just like how he remembered his old pedal to be, and was extremely pleased with how it sounded. While I can’t personally say how it sounds compared to the original what I can say is it sounds pretty dang good!
It's all I ever wanted to create a very specific kind of distortion. I rarely turn any of the dials down from maximum because that part of my brain may infact be smooth. I've made my peace with that, but there is no peace for anyone near me when I turn this thing on. My OCD Overdrive & small Orange amp seem to work ok with it as well, but I don't have the resources to throw other overdrives and amps at it for better results. The crunchy tone is just what I wanted. Minus a star because it definitely sucks the juice right out of a 9v in what feels like a couple of days, possibly draining even when it's not on?
This this thing is super thick, doom heavy sounding. Prolly need a overdrive pedal or equalizer pedal to go with it to level out the bassiness.
Was a good pedal but not what I wanted.
I bought one of these when I was just out of high school. Basically the first year they were making ’em. I knew nothing, I just bought whatever they had. I couldn't even play; I was just making noises. But I loved that ’87–’88 pedal with all my heart. I could make noises like a swarm of metallic hornets; I could make a noise like a bunch of chainsaws in a dumpster, fighting each other to get out. Then, ’94, I sold everything I had and moved to Tucson.¶ Fast forward thirty years or whatever. The idea starts to my mind: "Hmm I would like to have that pedal back." I go on Amazon, and there it is: same exact pedal, only now it has a "mod" switch in the back—mkay! Costs twice as much now—mkay! And by this point, I had learned to play the guitar. So what do I think of the pedal now??¶ Good morning, chainsaws, nice to see you again! Ah! my good friends, the titanium hornets!
Great pedal
