Update: Unit stopped working after only 4-5 months. We did train our dog not to counter surf using this mat. She did well to where we stopped using it, but she decided to try surfing again and pulled stuff out of the sink/garbage; dangerous for her. I decided to turn it back on while we were away. I replaced new battery. It would not power on so I had to fix the tangs to ensure a good connection to the battery. Now it just randomly goes off, which is ok but freaks the dog out when alarm goes off. Shopping for another solution.I was hesitant to buy based on various reviews but our dog was determined to counter surf while we were away. I did some research and found this one to try. it comes rolled up. popped in a 9V battery and set the alarm only, you have to hold the power button for a couple seconds. did some testing. it was not going off when i put my foot on it. found out that if you are wearing tennis shoes it will not go off. took my shoe off and it alarmed (with my socks on). I set the alarm/shock to med and set it down in front of our counter/sink and we went out. We monitored our dog cam and saw her go to the counter, it alarmed and she immediately backed away. have not had an issue with her surfing since. note, if you spill water (or drops) on it, it will keep alarming. You need to turn it off and wipe it down, before turning it back on.

My 11 month old Boxer was counter surfing on a regular basis. We set up this mat to discourage the behavior. After one incident where the mat went off (a loud beep) while my husband and I were in the other room, and the counter surfing ended. We still leave it on the counter to remind him not to put both paws up and take stuff off of the counter; however, so far so good! I really like the fact that the training mat gives a loud sound. When I am working in the other room, I can tell if our dog has been getting on the counter.

Stopped working after 2 months. Not worth the money! Worked great for the time it did work, but once the first battery died & I changed it; it no longer will work. It’ll start beeping extremely loudly every few minutes & the mat itself no longer works. I’ve bought multiple new batteries to see if that was the issue, but it still doesn’t work. Don’t waste your money on this brand & find another brand. Of course it’s too late for me to exchange or return so I’m out nearly $40 & left with a piece of plastic trash.

Really does work. I would have given it a five but after a few months, the one doesn’t work at all, but when it was working, it did a good job keeping my very large dog out of areas I didn’t want him in. Works very well on adults too ha ha but don’t have wet feet wet shoes on it. Don’t let them get dirty really don’t walk on them at all. Rechargeable batteries works fine in them. Wish I could find one that would circle a kitchen trashcan that would really be a game changer for this house. Also wish they were a little cheaper so I could keep one by my kitchen door because i the dog tries to go outside if the kids forget and leave the door cracked open. But if I have a narrow mat there, he wouldn’t even try but nothing stops him if there’s fireworks he’ll take the shock over fireworks, but these are great like I said, just don’t walk on them.

perfect. i had the plastic square sheets but my chihuahua figured our how to get onto the back of the sofa anyway. The beep on these pads work perfectly. He is staying off!

I really like this idea of this item and it was effective until the day after the return window expired the mat no longer works. Several attempts to e-mail the company have resulted in no response to the time this review. In addition no phone number can be found

Unbelievable! My 7 month old puppy would not stay off the couch and eat the cushions. She would constantly start to destroy anything on the couch. I got these mats and simply turned them on, pointed at the couch, said no, no, and that was it. Neither of my dogs have ever touched the couch again without permission. I never turn them on anymore. They just know if those mats are on the couch, it’s off limits. If I remove them and I sit down and invite the dogs up, they will come up on the couch. Otherwise, NOPE! They make a wide path around the couch.

It worked! No more unwanted behaviour!

The lowest setting is actually quite strong, it says it’s not for kittens so be mindful of that! My cat learned to stay away from the door after just twice going to keep using it just beep mode and see how it goes.

Works perfectly.In a week of use I am quite sure all the neighborhood furry ones have learned to keep out!

Simply did not work. I had it set on sound + shock mode, my cats would walk right over it and most of the time nothing would happen. Sometimes the sound would go off, but the cats never felt anything and would simply turn their head to look at the beep. I even walked on it bare foot. Same thing happened (or didn't happen, I should say).
