This summer I'm traveling to meet a group of high-school era friends to watch the 2026 World Cup quarter finals in the town where we all grew up. The construction is surprisingly robust.- The string includes its own power supply and a 13ft/4m extension cord.- Integrated into the string is a controller with a power button. Short pressing the button alternates between various light modes without the need for the remote. Long pressing turns the lights off. That said, the remote and App allow much greater control (see below).- The lights are separated from each other on the string by 3.5ft, which is a pretty wide gap compared to other string lights I've used.- Each light has a convenient built-in hanging hook (inner diameter 0.29in/7.5mm), which is partially open on the bottom so can be hung on a string, or secured with the provided cable ties for increased stability.- Each faceted ball realistically features black pentagons and white hexagons, which is not a given with other soccer ball novelties.- The string has screw-together male-female connectors on its ends which allow three strings to be connected head-to-tail (daisy chain) for control with the provided remote or app. Each connector includes a rubber o-ring inside to help maintain its IP65 waterproof seal. The user manual recommends connecting only two strings end-to-end, as 3 units my reduce overall brightness due to voltage drop.Remote and App Control:The lights can be controlled with the included remote control, or via the products smart app.- Remote Control: For my purposes, the remote is my option of choice because I don't like installing random apps on my phone. It comes with a CR2025 coin-shaped battery pre-installed. Just remove the protruding plastic tab and it's good to go. It operates via 2.4G so it has good connectivity, and it has a plethora of features:> The remote has separate buttons along the top row for turning the string on and off. Adjacent buttons allow the lights to be dimmed or brightened to suit the mood of the room.> The next row down has four built-in scenery buttons, with themes like Christmas (green and red), Patriotic (red, white, and blue), Halloween and "Candy Cane." The Patriotic mode will be handy for USA games, and will hopefully come into play should the USMNT advance to the finals.> Next down are three rows of static monochrome/colorful RGBW and other spectrum colors.> There are nine built-in dynamic color schemes (M1-M9), with the option to add or subtract, totaling up to twelve schemes. The dynamic modes alternate various colors between the LEDs. With one of the dynamic modes selected, their alteration speed can be increased or decreased with two adjacent speed buttons.> There are also three timers; 6H, 8H, and 6639H (6h on, 6h off, 3h on, 9h off).> At the bottom are four different music rhythm options to synchronize the lights to music.- App Control: The app requires creating an account, but allows expanded capabilities for those who want more tailored control, and it allows control of five different light strings. It's a great option for those who like to tinker under the hood.Overall, this is a clever soccer-oriented set of string lights at a reasonable price, with expanded capabilities over traditional string lights. My son is absolutely crazy about soccer, so he was incredibly excited to hang these up in his room. The faceted soccer ball design is a fun touch, and they look really good once illuminated. He especially enjoys playing his music and setting the lights to reactive mode, and there are plenty of different scenes and vibrant colors to choose from.On the technical side, the control options leave a bit to be desired. I don't really care for the proprietary app, and because the lights are strictly Bluetooth-controlled, there is no way to integrate them into my Home Assistant setup. That is a bit of a letdown if you prefer having all your smart devices on one centralized platform. Additionally, they are a bit more expensive than I would expect to pay for what are essentially just generic RGB LEDs. We're mounting them inside, but it's nice that they're waterproof so I expect they'd be durable enough to last outside.Despite the smart control limitations, they are a huge hit in my house and work very well as a standalone decorative light.

First, the ad and the user manual are very well written and documented.There is so much to the features and expandability that this is really more than a set of standalone lights, it's the beginning of a system:- 3 strands at 15 lights apiece like this can be strung together (max) end to end to make 1 giant strand of 45 lights (3 x 15)- or with use of the phone app you can power 5 of those giant strands for 225 lights (45 x 5 = 225)But the limits are: no more than 3 strands connected end to end, no more than 5 of those interconnected giant strands, and the app has to be used in that latter case of multiple giant strandsThe light modes go beyond millions of colors and many modes; there are also 4 ambient sound-driven modes. So, music, cheering, they all can drive the behavior of the lights.In real terms, each soccer "globe" is about 2.5" in diameter, so between the sizes of a racquetball and a tennis ball.The manual is sizeable, and I was hoping it was in multiple languages, so I'd only have to read 1/5 of it or something. Nope, it's entirely English, there's a lot to understand if you want full command of the potential of this.In scenarios like just 1 strand or segment, whether you've interconnected 1 or 2 more for a max of 3 per giant strands, you can just power on or off with the power button (picture). I did not test this scenario: if the switch is left on and instead it's plugged into an outlet which is on its own light switch (like for Christmas lights), if it will go on with a flick of that wall switch, or if you have to manually turn it on at the product's switch. In my last houses I've had this feature installed so I can turn on the outside Christmas lights from the inside. If I put on a timer, I can leave the wall switch on.The mode in the video I show is a really attractive mode and many of the modes really impart a flowing motion. I just think the people who designed this thought through so many details and really made something they can be proud of.
